Meet the Axewood crew
Shea emry - Founder
Shea was an All-Star Middle Linebacker and one of the fiercest and nastiest players in the Canadian Football League. Sidelined with an injury in 2011, Emry launched his first entrepreneurial endeavour - Wellmen, an action based men’s adventure club that proves being a ‘real man’ is about being a balanced man; no tear, grunt, or hard work left out. Axes quickly became integrated into his work due to their connection with our primal past and the way they break down barriers and get people trying something new. When not out stoking fires or sharpening blades, Shea speaks to men's health and development issues as an advocate for the Canadian Men's Health Foundation and Bell Let's Talk. Check out Shea's TEDx talk about mental health and vulnerability.
Tony Ganton - TEAM Lead
Tony has just finished up his degree at UBC with a major in Psychology. He played on the UBC Varisty football team winning a national championship in 2015. Tony was introduced to axes by our founder Shea 3 years ago on a Wellmen adventure and hasn't looked back since. He loves getting back in touch with nature and exploring new and exciting things. When not running events with Axewood you can find Tony at almost all UBC Varsity games trying to grow a competitive culture and engaging alumni.
